Pop Conf’ are meetings, spaces for debate and meetings, which bring together artists, researchers around broad questions, which may seem offbeat, but whose answers are by nature complex. The speakers explore a theme linked to the artistic and civic issues raised by La Pop: questioning the roles that sounds and music play for the individual, communities, society or ecosystems.
A cycle of 3 conferences is planned in connection with the SeineLab programming on January 28, February 8* and June 10, 2025.
*This Pop Conf’ will exceptionally take place at the Salon de Montrouge.

“Why are fish so noisy?”
In the collective imagination, nourished by the films of Commander Cousteau, the seabed is represented as “The World of Silence” (film awarded at Cannes in 1956). However, in recent years, research has shown that fish are far from being silent: not only are they talkative, but their sound production is essential for their survival. Studying how their acoustic signals work is therefore essential to understand how their sound communication capabilities must be protected, otherwise they risk becoming forever silent again.
With Fabrice-Elie Hubertsound artist and co-designer of the installation “Listening to fish and other noisy shrimps” and researcher Eric Parmentierdirector of the Functional and Evolutionary Morphology Laboratory at the University of Liège (Belgium).
