For the second consecutive year, the podium for album sales in France in 2024 is dominated by the Ile-de-France rapper Werenoi, ahead of another rapper, PLK, then the group Indochine, the National Publishing Union announced this Thursday, January 9 phonograph (Snep).
“With 18 of the 20 best album sales in 2024, the public favors the projects of artists produced in France – and singing in French – all generations and all musical styles combined, with a special mention for rap which dominates the top of this ranking »summarized Snep in a press release.
Werenoi, rapper from Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis), confirms his dazzling success at the head of this Top albums, carried by Pyramid 2 but also Carréan opus awarded a Flame in April. PLK, another French rapper with Polish origins, takes second place thanks to Room 140a dense mixtape in three parts.
The third step goes to Indochina. The pop rock group led by Nicola Sirkis returns strong with its double album Babylon Babylonwhich he will defend during a tour from the end of January.
The Marseille UFO Jul includes eight projects, as in 2023, in this annual ranking, but does not rise higher than 10th place, while it reached 6th position a year earlier. Also note the supremacy of pianist Sofiane Pamart, who dominates the podium of Top Classique, one of the Snep rankings by musical genre.

On the streaming side, 138 billion streams were recorded last year (+ 14%), notably thanks to “bangers”, these songs that make you want to move: Spider of the Gims-Dystinct duo, Little Genius from Jungeli with his troop, and Imagine of the Carbonne revelation.
Female artists remain underrepresented at the top of the rankings, despite the performances of Billie Eilish (4th), Zaho de Sagazan (6th) and superstar Taylor Swift (9th). In the Top 200, a broader snapshot of the musical landscape, “41 projects are female, or a little more than one album in five”noted the Snep, seeing a “encouraging development” calling for “be strengthened”.
The Top Albums combines physical sales of CDs and vinyls, downloads and streaming streams converted into sales equivalent. In March, Snep will reveal the results of the French recorded music market, whose turnover amounted to 968 million euros in 2023.
