Artificial intelligence can play dirty tricks on us. Talk to the character worn by Catherine Burnet in a hilarious sketch from the new Télé-Québec series Kamikazes!.
After providing simple advice, the overly perceptive voice coming from her phone begins to give far too many details about the private life of the young woman, who is in the process of courting a barista played by Irdens Exantus.
In hands-free mode, her phone addresses the issue of the little piles of vomit left by her cat on the floor of her apartment, the fact that she cannot afford a trendy restaurant, but also that ‘she doesn’t really like sexuality, except when she masturbates in fitting rooms… She tries to interrupt this frankly embarrassing outburst, but the voice then transfers to the cafe’s stereo…
For Télé-Québec, this is another sketch series after Appendices, The sores et Like hi!.
Several other sketches from the first episode of Kamikazes! that we saw hit the mark. What about the one where Irdens Exantus is at a self-service checkout in a grocery store! Éric Bernier is both funny and frightening in the role of a manager who attacks this customer who is having trouble with the damn cash register.
Directed by Pascal Barriault, the series aims to laugh at our failings because humor is often the best therapy, especially in these dark times when, as much as we are, we are dreading the coming months with the return of Trump to the White House.
Kamikazes! is filmed on location, that is to say outside the studios, and the texts and hilarious situations are carried by actors we love. In addition to Éric Bernier, Catherine Brunet and Irdens Exantus, we find Fabiola N. Aladin, Kathleen Fortin, Rachel Graton, Kevin Houle, Simon Lacroix, Steve Laplante and Joëlle Paré-Beaulieu. Guests join them here and there.
The sketches are by Pascal Barriault, Sarah Dunlavey, Simon Lacroix, Marie-Hélène Lapierre, Simon Laroche, Erika Mathieu, Jean-François Nadeau and Louis-Philippe Rivard.
The premiere is Thursday, January 9, at 9 p.m., on Télé-Québec.
