However, it was not Gilles Dreu who was initially to perform it but the singer and actor Jean-Claude Pascal. The latter, however, refused the piece, making Gilles Dreu say that “my whole life has been a misunderstanding”.
Do not confuse “Alouette” with the heady nursery rhyme sung loudly by children which bears the same title and in which the lark ends up plucked. Very popular in the French-speaking world, it dates back to the 19th century. She benefited from an interpretation by Elvis Presley in the film Under the blue sky of Hawaii in an adapted version in English: “Almost Always True”.
In 2021, Gilles Dreu, whose real name is Jean-Paul Chapuisat, released his latest album entitled The friends counter. He had invited his friends, including Fabienne Thibault, Stone, Gérard Lenorman, Didier Barbelivien and Serge Lama. During his career, he also collaborated with Nicole Croisille.
He took the stage for the last time last February, a few months after participating in a tribute to Jacques Brel given at the Olympia, in Paris, in 2023.
Gilles Dreu had also made appearances in the cinema as an actor, notably in Les Cracksalongside Bourvil and Robert Hirsch, as well as in Chaussette surprise, with Michel Galabru, Anna Karina, Bernadette Lafont and Michel Blanc, and Le cri du hibou, by Claude Chabrol.
He has also been seen in television series.
