As of this Tuesday, January 7, Camille Cottin wears the sole-on-stage The meeting at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, in Paris. The play is an adaptation of Jewish Cock by Katharina Volckmer, a work acclaimed in many countries.
After six years of absence, Camille Cottin wanted to reconnect with her first love: the theater. Having confided this desire to the director Jonathan Capdevielle, both then undertook to bring Jewish cock on the boards. Throughout the pages of this novel by Katharina Volckmer, several questions unfold around the past of her native land, gender, the body and the taboos that can arise from it. This adaptation results in a play with black humor, created last September in Aix-en-Provence and now to be discovered from January 7 to 25 at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord.

Reading the summary is enough to immerse the audience in the atmosphere of the play: while she is preparing to become a circumcised man, a young German woman opens up to her gynecologist who examines her. The monologue is distinguished by its direct aspect. “We then navigate the thoughts of a patient who tells her story without shame, confides in this body which imprisons her, and in her absurd Hitler dreams which end up destabilizing Jason, her shrink,” the description states. She talks about her family heritage, the guilt of being born on the ruins of a Nazi past, but also about a love named K, met in a public toilet and with whom she shares her passion for the theater. »
In a speech without embellishments, the character played by Camille Cottin intends to free himself from society by highlighting the different mechanisms that govern it. “For this production, the idea is to construct a score on stage where choreographed bodies and voices enter into dialogue and reflect this progressive transformation of the character towards his new identity”assured Jonathan Capdevielle during an interview with Radio France.
Throughout the world, literary criticism and great contemporary authors have given a positive reception to Jewish cockwhich, to date, has been translated in around fifteen countries. It would therefore not be surprising if its theatrical adaptation in French managed to find its audience and follow in this wake.
