While many Parisian museums suffered from the Olympic Games, the Louvre resisted, flirting with the 2023 score.

The public establishment announced yesterday 8.7 million visitors in 2024, compared to 8.9 million in 2023, a drop of only 2%. It remains well above the score of 7.8 million for 2022 but far from the 2018 record, which seems inaccessible (10.2 million), especially since management has more than once expressed the desire to work on the comfort of visiting rather than the crowds.

13% Americans

As we move away from the dark years of Covid (with the historic collapse of 2020 and 2021, to less than 3 million entries) and travel restrictions become only a distant memory, the share of the French decreases logically: they represented 32% of the total in 2022, 30% in 2023 and only 23% in 2024 (of which more than half are Ile-de- residents). Americans remain the largest foreign contingent (13%), however a marked decline compared to 2022, when they were 18%, which can be explained by the gradual resumption of arrivals from Asia…
