The tension between taxi drivers and transport app drivers continues to intensify, with recurring confrontations proliferating on social networks. In Casablanca, the police decided to take matters into their own hands, after a clash between two drivers for the transport of a tourist.
Indeed, the standoff between traditional taxis and VTC drivers seems endless to the point of attracting the attention of the authorities. In Casablanca, the security services of the police headquarters questioned taxi drivers, in conjunction with a driver working for a transport application. This confrontation was triggered when taxi drivers prevented a VTC driver from picking up a tourist leaving a hotel, leading to the intervention of tourist police officers, who were warned by them.
According to Hespress sources, the car used for the transportation app services was seized by authorities and towed to the garage, while two taxis were directed to the Zerktouni rating office.
It should be noted that this situation, which has persisted since the emergence of these applications, remains unsolved to this day. The videos circulating on social networks continue to expose new altercations between these two “enemy” camps, sometimes dramatic, with incidents going as far as accidents or physical attacks.
Faced with this escalation of tensions, many unions and professionals in the sector are launching an urgent call for State intervention to put an end to this conflict and establish a legal and respectful competitive framework. They also emphasize the need to stop these cycles of violence, in order to guarantee a healthy and secure environment for all transport stakeholders, particularly for users who frequently find themselves at the heart of these conflicts.
