In Lamballe, a year 2024 with fanfare for the Le Penthièvre cinema

Clearly, the Le Penthièvre cinema has a string of successes. After a “record” year in 2023, with almost 18,000 admissions, the Lamballais associative establishment attracted 18,949 spectators to its dark room in 2024, including around 8,000 schoolchildren, from the schools of Lamballe Terre et Mer and neighboring towns. “Another record year! With precisely 1,034 additional admissions compared to last year,” say Joël Rio and his daughter Delphine Flageul, respectively president and employee of the association managing the cinema.

“For us, it’s mainly French films that do well, often better than American films,” underlines Delphine Flageul, with her eyes on the 2024 box office figures. With 1,100 admissions, it’s a comedy. A little extra thing”, produced by Artus, who finished the year at the top of the charts. “It’s quite rare for one of the films we screen to exceed 1,000 admissions; there was a real phenomenon,” comments the cinema employee. Then followed “The Count of Monte Cristo” (400 entries), with Pierre Niney, then the Disney animated film “Moana 2” (300 entries) and the dramatic comedy “En fanfare” (270 entries).

  • 3 “Les Tuche 5” in preview

Among the 200 films and 550 annual screenings programmed by Le Penthièvre, around half are labeled Arthouse, the cinema having obtained its label last summer. “We were already broadcasting art house films before, but we will now be able to better identify them in our programming and offer a little more in 2025,” indicates Delphine Flageul, also giving a spotlight on the other new releases to come. “Even if we are an association, we still have the possibility of previewing films, particularly in private screenings, on demand, for associations, works councils, schools, etc. but also in public screenings,” recalls the management assistant, announcing the next preview: “It will be the popular comedy Les Tuche 5, God save the Tuche, Sunday February 2, at 3 p.m.”.

  • 4 “Get to work!” » January 16

Among the upcoming events hosted by the associative cinema, there will also be a debate screening, in partnership with the MJC de Lamballe, around the film “Au travail! », by Gilles Perret and François Ruffin. “It’s a social film, a documentary comedy, which highlights workers paid the minimum wage,” describes Joël Rio. See you Thursday, January 16, at 7:30 p.m. (single price: €3).

  • 5 The “Vitrine de Lamballe” cinema

Another new feature is that you can now buy tickets with Les Vitrines de Lamballe gift vouchers, since the end of 2024. “The Penthièvre association is now a member of this system which promotes local Lamballe brands,” note the two managers of the movie theater.
