The Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans living abroad is organizing the exhibition “Mapping of Displacement”, by Moroccan-Spanish artist Yassine Chouati, from January 9 to February 8, 2025 at Espace Rivages.
Residing in Spain, Yassine Chouati obtained a doctorate with international distinction and Cum Laude qualification in art and heritage, a master’s degree in contemporary art and a bachelor’s degree in visual arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Seville in Spain. He has exhibited in Spain, Sweden, Mexico…and he has participated in several artistic residencies in Spain and international research stays funded in Denmark, Finland and Brazil. Exile, uprooting, disorientation and solitude are the favorite themes of his artistic research. By following processes where the meaning is concealed and the narration is discontinuous, Yassine Chouati destabilizes the viewer to encourage them to collective reflection.
Through drawing, screen printing and lithography… and through several artistic projects, he exploits a series of elements to explore the memory and melancholy linked to exile. “This exhibition goes beyond the framework of a simple artistic encounter: it acts as a link between my present and my roots, a deeply significant return to my native land. It symbolizes an intimate reconciliation with the place that saw me born, establishing a discreet dialogue between what I left behind and what I shaped far away, far from the shores of my childhood,” declares Yassine Chouati.
