While Jacques Audiard’s film has just won four awards at the Golden Globes ceremony, it has fifteen preselections at the BAFTAs, alongside “The Substance” by Coralie Fargeat, preselected in eleven categories.
The BAFTA ceremony (British equivalent of the Caesars), which will take place on February 16 in London, announced its preselections on Friday January 3. Among the three favorites, two films are directed by French directors: Emilia Perez by Jacques Audiard and The Substance by Coralie Fargeat.
The first wins fifteen preselections, while the second is present in eleven categories, behind Conclavethe thriller by Edward Berger with Ralph Fiennes (fourteen preselections).
From the Golden Globes to the BAFTAs
The Golden Globes ceremony, which took place on Sunday January 5 in Los Angeles, rewarded Emilia Perez four statuettes, including that of best musical film. As for the BAFTAs, the film is notably preselected in the categories Best Foreign Language Film, Best Direction, and Best Original Music. As for the performers, Karla Sofía Gascón and Adriana Paz are respectively preselected in the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories.
The Substance also continues her momentum from the Golden Globes, where Demi Moore received the prize for best performance by a female actor in a comedy. The actress is once again shortlisted in this category at the BAFTAs, alongside her partner Margaret Qualley, who is in the Best Supporting Actress category.
Final nominations will be announced on January 15, ahead of the ceremony on February 16. The list of preselections is available here.
