Guest of “A Sunday in the Country”, the 82-year-old singer spoke with great emotion of the death of his daughter suffering from leukemia.
It’s an open wound that will never close. In 2001, doctors diagnosed Laurette, the daughter of Michel Fugain leukemia. The young woman died on May 18, 2002 following complications linked to her bone marrow transplant. She was 22 years old. Since then, the interpreter of Live life continues to honor his memory.
This January 5, guest of“A Sunday in the countryside” on the occasion of the promotion of his latest album entitled Life, love, etc.the 82-year-old singer once again spoke about this tragic loss. Thus, after retracing his childhood and his career, Michel Fugain was unable to contain his emotion when speaking about his daughter. “My daughter gets sick and then I die, for real. I considered it a personal attack on life, bitch! And I didn’t want to go back up.”he declared with a tight throat and tears in his eyes. “I put my daughter under an olive tree, the ashes”he then revealed.

Two months after Laurette’s death, Michel Fugain met, in Corsica, Sanda, a Romanian singer 22 years his junior. “This meeting turns everything upside downhe admitted. I called her “my mermaid” because I was more in the middle of the ocean, I was going down, I really didn’t want to go back up. She came and took me up to get some air, my first breath of air. It’s extraordinary, she saved my life”he added.
In conclusion, Frédéric Lopez wanted to know what life has taught his guest. “You can fall, it happened to me once, I fell with my arms crossed. The right reaction is not to sit idly by. From then on, I became a proselytizer of life, of the desire for life. Because my kid, she was 22 years old, so… So that’s all I have to sing”replied Michel Fugain, once again overwhelmed by emotion.
