Almost a year to the day after the release of episode 1 of season 1, Solo Leveling is back for more.
Season 2 of the manhwa event (it’s South Korean, so we’re not talking about “manga”) starts this Saturday, January 4, 2025, with the publication of the first episode, on the 13th.e in total, at 6:30 p.m. on the video-on-demand platform Crunchyroll.
Exceptional success
Thanks to a very high quality drawing style, which we owe to the illustrator Sung-Rak Jang, alias Dubu, who died in July 2022 following an illness, the work by Chu-Gong was able to draw its pin of the game.
Worldwide, we are talking about more than fourteen billion page views. This gives an idea of the success encountered abroad by Jinwoo Sung, the main character and his sidekicks.
The success is such that today, Solo Leveling is one of the references among Isekai, this style of manga in which the hero dies (or disappears in any way) before returning, under the same features, with his memory and his experiences, but with a completely different way of thinking (Chainsaw Man, Sword Art Online, Re-Zero…).
The first 12 episodes were particularly rhythmic, with a story that moves quickly, and always this breathtaking animation.
What’s the story again?
Jinwoo Sung lives in a world where hunters try to fight monsters, hidden in dungeons. He is a hunter himself, but is very weak, compared to the others (a ranking exists, and he is in last place).
“One day, after narrowly surviving an extremely powerful double dungeon that nearly wiped out his entire party, a mysterious program called the System chose him as the sole player and gave him the extremely rare ability to power up and transform everyone. whom he kills in a faithful servant called a shadow. Jinwoo then embarks on a journey where he faces all kinds of enemies, men and monsters, to discover the secrets of the dungeons and the true source of his powers,” writes Crunchyroll.
Season 2, which starts this Saturday, will focus on the hero’s unique ability: controlling the “shadows”, these entities that he has already beaten, and which are now at his service.
Jinwoo has become a fearsome necromancer with an army of shadows loyal to his orders. But he still must learn to master his abilities while hiding them from other hunters. The race against time to save his mother continues. Facing enemies even more formidable than ever, Jinwoo pushes his body and mind to their limits, until he reveals the extent of his new power.
Dantesque technical staff
The adaptation is carried out by the A-1 pictures studio, to which we owe works such as the magnificent Sword Art Online or the surprising Mashle Magic and muscles.
In terms of atmosphere, Hiroyuki Sawano managed the soundtrack. The latter took care of putting to music the universe of Attack on Titan. A cocktail that worked really well in the first 12 episodes of season 1. And which we are therefore impatiently waiting to rediscover during season 2.
Solo Levelingseason 2: one episode per week on Saturdays on Crunchyroll, starting January 4, 2025.
