At the time, his defense produced a medical certificate which mentioned “massive anxiety, dark thoughts and sleep problems“. We therefore recommended to the 54-year-old man “hospitalization in a protected environment“.

For his part, having remained silent for months, Stéphane Plaza spoke exceptionally, at Christmas. On Instagram, he sent a message to his supporters on December 24, 2024. Karine Le Marchand's best friend said: “this year (…) has been difficult, but thanks to you, I am still standing”.
And added: “To my friends, as well as to all the people I don't know but who send me their good vibes, whether on Instagram or at the corner of a street: you gave me immense strength. Your smiles, your words have lit up my heart forever“.
