a record 100 billion dirhams cleaned up

The tax amnesty program introduced by the 2024 finance law made it possible to regularize a total amount of 100 billion dirhams. Among these assets, 60 billion dirhams were deposited in cash in banks, while the remaining 40 billion dirhams mainly concern real estate acquisitions and contributions to associates’ current accounts.

By applying a final contribution of 5% to these amounts, this operation should generate around 5 billion dirhams in tax revenue. These funds will be integrated into the general state budget for the 2025 financial year, once the banks have remitted the levies to the Treasury, in accordance with their obligation within the month following the declaration.

A strengthened climate of trust

This unprecedented result, 20 times higher than the 5 billion dirhams regularized during the 2020 amnesty, reflects a renewed confidence between taxpayers and the tax administration. It also marks a clear desire to clean up tax relations in Morocco.

The regularized amount, equivalent to approximately 25% of the 425 billion dirhams of cash in circulation in the country, greatly exceeds the initial objective of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), set at 60 billion dirhams. This demonstrates the commitment of Moroccan wealthy people, who have contributed significantly by injecting more than 60 billion dirhams in cash into the banking sector.

A unanimous success

While awaiting the final results of the operation, which will soon be published by the government, the consensus is clear: this initiative is a success. It not only achieves its financial objectives, but also contributes to strengthening transparency and confidence in the national tax system.
