After abandoning Instagram in 2020 during her withdrawal with Prince Harry from the royal family, the Duchess of Sussex made her return to the social network with a video to celebrate 2025.
Meghan Markle is back on Instagram. To start the year 2025, Prince Harry’s wife published a video on the social network that she had abandoned for five years.
In these images, we see the Duchess of Sussex running on the beach then writing “2025” in the sand. According to People magazine, this video was filmed by Prince Harry on a beach near their home in Montecito, California.
Several other accounts paused
Before marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan Markle was followed by more than 3 million followers on her personal Instagram account as well as on her blog account The Tig.
But, a few months before her wedding, the former actress closed her blog and deleted all her social media accounts. Once married, Harry and Meghan then opened a joint account on Instagram (@KensingtonRoyal) where the publication rules were very strict, as Meghan Markle confided to the media The Cut in 2022.
“There is literally a protocol that if you want to publish photos of your child, as a member of the family, you must first give them to the royal rotation,” said the Duchess of Sussex.
To circumvent these rules, the couple unveiled a second Instagram account in 2019, @SussexRoyal on which they highlighted their royal actions and their personal lives. But in 2020, when Harry and Meghan decided to end their royal obligations, this account stopped being populated.
Since then, however, Harry and Meghan have opened an Instagram account for their Archewell foundation, an association which aims to “identify immediate needs, implement significant initiatives and bring about long-term change”.
