A new multi-faceted exhibition at Muzoo. It is called “Feathers, Hairs, Paul”. It is dedicated to the naturalist artist Paul Barruel. For the occasion, the institution is releasing around forty works by the Parisian watercolorist from its collection, but not only that. These creations resonate with jewelry and textile creations by students from the Applied Arts center of the Neuchâtel Professional Training Center (CPNE). The theme: the appendages, these protective organs characterized by their high keratin content of which hair, teeth, nails and body hair are part. “The students chose an appendage to represent in their outfit, starting from an unbleached and raw cotton canvas,” explains Nathalie Bourgarel, the coordinator of the fashion sector of the Applied Arts center of the CPNE.
Jewelry of the future
The exhibition also includes a space dedicated to jewelry, including earrings, necklaces and beaks… “The creations are not reminiscent of Paul Barruel, it is a contemporary and different way of treating the wild,” explains Noémie Lagger , the coordinator of the jewelry and setting sector of the Applied Arts center of the CPNE. The students designed a piece of jewelry that can be worn in the mouth and adorns the face.
A creative collaboration
Since the Zoological Garden Museum existed, its curator and head of the museum sector, Nicolas Margraf, has paid particular attention to collaborations with other players in the region to set up his exhibitions. “The theme of appendages lent itself well to a collaboration with the art school,” he adds.
The exhibition “Feathers, Hairs, Paul” will be available to discover from Sunday at Muzoo, in La Chaux-de-Fonds. She will stay there until next November. /yca
