Place du Salin, Galerie21 welcomes until January 29 the painter and collage artist Marie Bauthias who presents “Histoires de papiers”. She knows paper well. For having regularly produced limited edition artists’ books, particularly contemporary poets. Exploring different approaches in her work as an artist, she gives free rein to her taste for geometric abstraction, typographic games and digital combinations, developing a unique universe around paper, writing and its extensions. Sylvie Amigo, director of Galerie21, explains the approach to us: “It is, with all her forgotten finds, that she arranges and cuts out, to give birth to a new emotion, thus, we can find a stamp canceled in 1900, or still the packaging of old spools of thread, sometimes even, the sense of smell becomes an actor when the artist seizes the packaging of fabric softener. Poet of paper, Marie Bauthias sometimes allows us to rediscover stories or memories.
