“It took a long time”: Denzel Washington becomes a “minister of God”

A few days before Christmas and his 70th birthday, Denzel Washington took the path of God. The Hollywood star has just been baptized at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ, a Pentecostal church from the evangelical Christian movement located in New York. During the Facebook live event on Saturday, December 21, the actor also received a “minister of God” license. It will allow him to be ordained at a later date, specifies CBS News.

“When you become a minister, you have words for the public, words for everyone. You have to reach out to people even further than Hollywood,” explained church deacon Arthur Dean.

“It took a while, but I’m here,” said Denzel Washington during the ceremony, which was described as moving. He added that he would do “whatever he can” for his congregation. Pauletta, his wife since 1983, was also present.

The multi-awarded actor, and son of a pastor, took advantage of his speech to discuss a prediction he received at the age of 20. “Mrs Ruth Green was known to have the gift of prophecy – some of you have heard this story. She prophesied and said: Boy, you're going to travel the world and preach to millions ».

Church deacon Arthur Dean is particularly proud to count Denzel Washington among his congregation. “He is like a brother to me. He was little when he was here. He stayed here. This is his home,” he said. And to conclude: “It is a great blessing for us. »
