The next James Bond is in an impasse, due to conflicts between Amazon and the producer of the saga Barbara Broccoli.
Despite big box office figures, the latest James Bond, Dying can waitwas a flop. Released at the end of 2021, the film with Daniel Craig suffered the remains of the Covid-19 pandemic, collecting “only” 160 million in revenue at the domestic box office and 774 million worldwide. For its gargantuan production budget of $301 million (according to Box-office Mojo), it's disappointing, especially in the United States – the main market for this type of film.
James Bond 26, maybe one day he never dies?
But not enough to stop MGM, which after its acquisition by Amazon in 2021/2022, is preparing the twenty-sixth opus of the franchise. However, the film's development appears to have reached an impasse, as recently revealed in an article in Wall Street Journal. According to American media sources, the producer of the saga, Barbara Broccoli (Eon productions), and the studio would have huge artistic differences on the future of the British spy.
On the one hand, Amazon and MGM are dreaming of an extended universe “Marvel style”with spin-off series and films. On the other hand, Barbara Broccoli is committed to the historical method of film production. “Barbara does not trust Amazon, which deeply believes in algorithms, while she has built the myth of [James Bond] thanks to cinemas and his instinct »says a source from Wall Street Journal.
In private, Barbara Broccoli would not have minced her words regarding the directors of the studio: “These people are idiots. So no script, no story and no new Bond. » James Bond 26 is therefore not happening right away. For rights and financing reasons, Amazon needs Eon productions and vice versa. The situation seems completely blocked.
While waiting for a new actor to take over from Daniel Craig, the British-American actor is securing his post-James Bond future. At Knives Out 3titled Wake Up Dead Manwill be released in 2025, on Netflix in France. He will also be in Queerthe next film directed by Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Challengers), the February 26, 2025 in our cinemas.
