It's part of the Christmas decor. The tree, the snowman, the smoked salmon on the table and in the background, Last Christmas from the English group Wham! The tube celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
The title is a walk with your feet in the snow, described as new wave disco because of the slightly light synths, a catchy song and the signature of a Christmas carol where you hear these little bells. An innocent melody, the song nevertheless evokes a devastating romantic breakup. George Michael sings: “Last Christmas I gave you my heart, but the next day you gave it up.”
Andrew Ridgeley sole representative of Wham! since the disappearance of George Michael, still love this title as much, 40 years after its creation: “I've heard it a lot, again this year, but I never tire of it. It's a really intelligent song. Combining sad lyrics with a catchy melody, it’s genius! And of course, there’s Georgie’s voice, George, which is so pretty,” he explains on RTL.

The other half of Wham! looks back on the creation of the title in the middle of summer: “George and I were at his parents' house one Sunday afternoon. There was a football match on TV, but we weren't really watching it. Then George rushed to upstairs without saying anything. He came back down an hour later saying, 'Andy, Andy, you have to listen to this!' I immediately knew that It would be a hit.”
Andrew Ridgeley also confided in the disappearance of his friend George Michael. It was 8 years ago, on December 25, 2016, on Christmas Day! “The period right after he died was very difficult. And the Christmas afterward was particularly difficult. Christmas was a really important time for George, you know. He loved Christmas. He would invite all our friends over and we would have a party there. Christmas Eve every year, he was a real fan of this period, to the point of writing a Christmas song about it,” confides the British artist.
The tube has not aged a bit
The song became a real phenomenon and it enjoyed great success.u for several years thanks to an American comedy released in 2019 Last Christmas, and the social network TikTok which has more than a million videos covering the song. Last year she even made it to the mountainous peak of Mariah Carey's English Christmas hit.
Last Christmas hasn't aged a bit, revived by numerous covers from Dalida to the K-pop group Blackpink. There is even a challenge every year on the Internet, the “whamageddon” which consists of avoiding the title which resonates around the world.
