La Chaîne du Bonheur and RTS have raised more than 4 million francs as part of a solidarity action in favor of child victims of abuse. Donations collected between last Saturday and Friday will be invested in Switzerland, the Sahel and South Asia.
The “Heart to Heart” operation which ended on Friday at 7:00 p.m. collected 4.027 million francs in donations, said the Chaîne du Bonheur and the RTS on Friday evening in a press release. Some 190 personalities participated in the more than 70 hours of live broadcast on RTS radio and TV channels, as well as on the Play RTS application.
As part of a special program broadcast continuously during the day since last Saturday, presenters Tania Chytil, Jonas Schneiter and Philippe Martin traveled across French-speaking Switzerland and met the population. For this 9th edition, the charitable action aimed to raise awareness of all forms of child abuse, including physical, sexual and psychological violence.
In Switzerland, the Sahel and South Asia
In Switzerland, part of the money raised will be used to help victims by welcoming abused children into emergency homes, the press release indicates. Donations will also be used to prevent violence by supporting vulnerable families.
In the Sahel and South Asia, donations will aim to protect children from abuse, early marriage and child labor. They will also be used to help children go to school.
Child abuse is an alarming reality in Switzerland, estimates Swiss Solidarity. Every year, thousands of children suffer violence or abuse there. Often isolated, the youngest are particularly vulnerable, and the reception structures to protect them are insufficient.
Donations for this action are still possible until the end of the year, the press release further specifies. Last year, the “Heart to Heart” operation raised 5.4 million francs for children and young people deprived of access to education.
