The film encourages reflection and the consequences of everyday actions
Director Younes Reggab is preparing to screen his latest film “404.01” in cinemas. Through his work, he offers a captivating reflection on the notions of control, destiny and responsibility.
While it attracted the attention of critics and the public during its preview presentation at the Tangier National Film Festival, Younes Reggab’s feature film “404.01” will be screened in theaters from December 25. Produced by Mohammed Eddarhor, this film promises to be a turning point in the Moroccan cinematic landscape. It offers a captivating reflection on the notions of control, destiny and responsibility. “Producing a feature film whose main plot is based on a science fiction theme is a real challenge for any producer keen to honor a genre which has its own codes and its own requirements in terms of writing, direction and production .
And we wanted to meet this challenge by choosing a complex story that explores a potentially infinite space-time where normal life takes place in direct confrontation with mystery,” explains Mohammed Eddarhor in a note of intent. And added: “We also made an exceptional effort in the choice of settings so that the rendering on screen was as attractive as possible. So our story is meant to be urban and modern and the city was filmed as a character in its own right.”
For director Youness Reggab, he said he was proud to be part of “the great production chain of this project and to have the chance to portray and coach a range of great actors, endowed with deep sensitivity” . And to indicate: “I maintained a slow rhythm, a stable but speaking image, directional lighting to make the most of the spaces and depths of the places, I asked for emotionally rich music, overflowing with conflicts and questions , which I direct with a talented musician, to whom I even entrusted the mixing of the film.
A captivating story
The film is a futuristic thriller that combines psychological tension and ethical questions. It immerses the viewer in a universe where destiny and free will collide. It actually tells the story of Amna, a young neurosurgeon, in her thirties, ambitious and cultured, she loves her work and devotes all her time to it, something which limits her circle of friends. She has a mother who she visits from time to time in the suburbs of the city.
Amina has an intimate relationship with Marouane, a study friend and work colleague with whom she shares a home, the latter works too much to earn more. She likes to listen to the radio anytime, even during her surgeries, something that will make it easier on the frequency (404.01) to contact her. The voice comes into contact with Amina for the first time, while she is trying to help an injured colleague. Later, this voice asks him to carry out some orders. The voice 404.01 goes into attack mode, but two police inspectors join the party, Salma and Chakib, not too convinced of Amna’s confessions.
Meanwhile, Amna notices the presence of a homeless person everywhere on her path. The film brings together a selection of known and recognized actors, in this case Hassna Moumni in the role of Amina. She is accompanied by Nasser Akbab, Abdelatif Chouki, Abdennabi Bennioui, Salah Bourakh, Hassna Tamtaoui and Farouk Aznabt, among others.
