Passionate about images and photography, Thierry Voitot took the plunge, about two years ago, into artificial intelligence (AI). And he has fun like a kid creating all the images from his imagination, obviously helped by algorithms and the power of today’s AI. This allowed him to offer, until December 27 at Lorius Image et Son in Brognard, his immersive photo exhibition which is worth a look.
Flashcode and music
Immersive, because each of the photos exhibited has a flashcode, which allows, with your phone, to access a page giving some explanations and allowing you to play music that fits the world of the image. The artist would like to remind all those who are wary of AI that “humans are at the heart of the process”. With artificial intelligence, we can construct an image by typing, in writing, the most precise text possible which will allow the software used to offer the desired rendering. It is therefore through habit and work that we obtain results as precise as those of Thierry Voitot, by rewriting and rewriting his requests in his software, “a bit like a painter who redraws the curve of the ‘a hip,’ smiles the artist.

Beautiful and impossible
All his photos come from work with AI without any use of Photoshop, nothing is reworked afterwards, he assures. What fascinates with AI is the beauty and realism of the visual rendering which mixes with the sometimes “impossible” side of the images we look at. Like the burning dress of a young woman, or this portrait of Vincent Van Gogh with a very “papier mache” appearance. The exhibition is made up of five parts. Four photos are dedicated, right at the entrance to the store, to children. Then three collections followed, entitled “Fashion Week”, to which Thierry Voitot associated themes: the seasons, the elements and minerals. It is these themes that constitute the decorations surrounding these AI-generated mannequins, and even their outfits. And so the papier-mâché collection.
Artist Extension
Thierry Voitot also offers training in the use of artificial intelligence, including workshops for children who can leave with the image they themselves created. “As you have to write everything in the software, and in the right order, the children re-appropriate the language.” A few meters from the exhibition, in a more cozy space, with a sofa and flat screen, other productions by the artist appear on the screen. “AI is not a replacement for the artist, it is an extension,” continues Thierry Voitot, who proves his point to the rhythm of the scrolling images.
