On this Saturday, December 7, the association Des mice et des livres, friends of the library, invited the associate professor of musical education, now retired, Corinne Deshayes, to discuss the career and life of the great Ariégeois composer. Gabriel Fauré, on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of his death. More than a hundred people responded to the association’s call and came to attend this conference in the village hall, Espace Maurice Faure. They had merit because the heating failure in the room was not sufficiently counterbalanced by human warmth. Corinne, for whom this was her first experience in this type of exercise, was extremely brilliant in the unanimous opinion of the members of the audience. Not only did she develop with ease (and almost without notes) the different stages of the life of the pianist, composer, accompanying his words with visuals. She then performed several extracts of her melodies on the piano. Other speakers completed the story of the life of Fauré (whose talent was only recognized late) with songs; Cécile Cardinot, professor at the Cahors conservatory, accompanied by her colleague Alejandro Cespedes-Martin on the piano, made her limpid voice resonate in the room by interpreting the master’s melodies, while the Olt quintet (based for the moment in Pradines), even if the instruments also suffered from the cold, played extracts from the Requiem and the magnificent Pavane. A soloist from the ensemble, on the transverse flute, had her talent admired. A quality afternoon which ended with a drink.
