Holiday Forgotten Day
A dive into the world of the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac
The children had the chance to discover the museum of quai Branly – Jacques Chirac in Paris dedicated to the arts and civilizations of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. There were around twenty of them discovering the world of carnival and masks, highlighting traditions from around the world. A storyteller guided them on this visit introducing them to the Lunar New Year festivities in Asia, the mourning processions in Oceania, the Ashura festival in Morocco and the Diablada in Bolivia. Each story opened a window onto distant cultures.
A creative mask-making workshop
In the afternoon, the children went to the Ballon Generali to take part in a carnival mask decoration workshop. Armed with brushes, bright colors and decorations, they gave free rein to their imagination. Accompanied by a speaker from the museum and collaborators from Generali France, they created unique works of art. The laughter and smiles testified to their joy. One of the employees present shared his feelings: “It was pleasant to spend these few hours with them, and they left with a smile and proud of their masks.”
A day to provide access to leisure and culture
Generali France dedicates the funds collected during the major fundraiser, the Global Challenge, to financing leisure activities and actions in the cultural field for children in vulnerable situations.
According to a study commissioned by The Human Safety Net at Intersection le Lab, 71% of poor children are not registered in a sports and cultural club or association. However, access to leisure activities is crucial for the development of children.
This is why The Human Safety Net is committed to its partner associations to organize days allowing children to get out of their daily lives to open up to the world and discover art and culture, as they did a few weeks ago.
