British rapper MIA slammed Jay-Z in a recent video, saying he told her to “get surgery” when she first signed with his label, Roc Nation.
MIA, whose name is Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, is 49 years old. She had a quick stint on Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label in the early 2010s.

Today, she reveals “advice” that the musician and businessman gave her and which she didn’t like at all.
“When I met Jay-Z and signed with Roc Nation, the first thing he told me to do was get plastic surgery,” the singer said. Paper Planes in a recent video obtained by Livebitez.
“Their argument, ‘Maya is insecure, that’s why she needs to pamper her ego,’ doesn’t hold up. It’s a failure. He fails because you turn around and ask yourself, “what women do you know who haven’t had plastic surgery around him (Jay-Z)?” They all did it. I’m the only one who hasn’t done it, which already proves that it’s not insecurity,” explains MIA.
MIA said that if she wasn’t confident, she “would have done it 100 times,” without hesitation.
The British rapper joined Roc Nation in May 2012 ahead of the release of her fourth album, Tanks. However, in December 2013, she announced she was leaving the label after it removed the trailer for a documentary about the making of the album.

MIA’s remarks came days before Jay-Z was accused, along with Sean Combs, of raping a 13-year-old girl in a complaint filed in October and amended to name Beyoncé’s husband, December 8 last year. Allegations that Jay-Z vigorously denies.
