“It is with great sadness that I learned today of the death of my sister, Princess Birgitta.” On social networks and via a press release, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden wanted to personally announce his disappearance. “My sister was an extraordinary person of great frankness who will be greatly missed,” continues the sovereign in this message full of tenderness. “Today I send my condolences to the children and grandchildren of Princess Birgitta.”
Born in 1937 at Haga Palace, in 1961 she married Prince Johan Georg of Hohenzollern, whom she met the previous year in Germany. The couple had three children before separating in 1990. They did not divorce. Princess Birgitta had chosen to live in Majorca. Among his last public appearances were the weddings of his nieces Victoria and Madeleine and his nephew Carl Philip.
