Camila Cabello has developed a “tougher exterior” over the course of her career.
The 27-year-old, who rose to fame as a teenager in the group Fifth Harmony, believes the demands of the music industry have forced her to become more resilient.
Camila, who released her latest solo album, “C,XOXO,” in June, told NYLON magazine: “Being in the industry has allowed me to build a tougher shell and exterior. Like Rihanna, Beyonce, Taylor [Swift] – this kind of bravado happens in their latest works. It is the construction of an armor. My previous albums were more straightforward, like: I’m so in love and happy, blah, blah, blah! They were daytime albums. I like the idea that [‘C,XOXO’] or nocturnal. More friction, more complicated.”
Camila left Fifth Harmony at the end of 2016 to focus on her solo career. However, she remains philosophical about her time in the group, recognizing that she didn’t have all the “skills” she needed at the time.
Camila, who was in the group alongside Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui, added: “I don’t know if I was struggling more than a normal teenager, because it’s hard to say which is normal, whether you’re famous or not. My barometer wasn’t working. It was more than a person should bear.
