On November 25, 2024, the lifeless body of Marine Vlahovic, a 39-year-old independent journalist, was discovered on the roof terrace of her apartment in the 1st arrondissement of Marseille. According to the prosecution, “the autopsy of the victim makes it possible to exclude the intervention of a third party at this stage”. Toxicological analyzes are underway to determine the exact causes of his death.
Marine Vlahovic was particularly recognized for her work covering the Middle East. She was notably a correspondent in Ramallah, in the West Bank, from 2016 to 2019. During her career, she collaborated with various media such as RFI, Radio France, Le Soir and Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS). Her podcast “Carnets de correspondent”, broadcast on ARTE Radio, earned her the Scam prize for best documentary podcast in 2021.
Based in Marseille since 2019, Marine Vlahovic has remained committed to the Palestinian cause. She attempted to return to the Palestinian territories and made several documentaries highlighting the voices of journalists from Gaza. ARTE Radio paid tribute to her by calling her “a journalist who is both rigorous and deeply human”.
Although the precise circumstances of his death are still unclear, the results of toxicology analyzes are awaited to provide additional information. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) expressed its deep sadness at the news of his death. She will be missed by us, as well as by her Palestinian friends and colleagues. »
