Félix and Solène are the big winners of Occupation Double Mexico! The lovebirds were crowned Sunday evening during the grand finale and we can say that it is a resounding victory for the candidates who decide to play the game clearly and assertively.
They finished ahead of two couples who played the game in a more traditional way, namely Aleksa and Kristina, the golden couple of the season who were the first to find themselves, to appear and who had a flawless journey, and Raphaël and Catherine L. who went through a roller coaster throughout the season and who gave quite a show to viewers, with their insecurities, their doubts and their terribly endearing side.
But we must name things as they are. Félix was the all-star player of this season by adopting a frontal and decisive strategy. He never hid that Occupation Double was a game with a grand prize worth several hundred thousand dollars in mode winner takes all.
The winners take home the grand prize, while the runners-up walk away empty-handed. Of course, OD is a love reality show and the objective is to form lasting couples. Having found Solène, the 29-year-old software developer met a bubbly, ambitious and charismatic young woman who shares her passion for training and surpassing oneself.
Félix’s path to victory would probably have been easier if he had decided to continue the adventure with Catherine F. – who was crowned the public’s favorite – but we have the impression that the romantic relationship potential at long term was less present than with Solène.
We cannot therefore say that Félix made his decisions solely based on strategy and that he completely neglected the love aspect of things. He listened to his heart by going there with Solène and we believe in the long-term potential of these two.
But the real reason the couple was able to make it all the way to the grand final and eventually win the public vote was because Felix was never afraid to be uncompromising and stand his ground. Looking back, the most defining moment of the season was the deliberation table where Félix, Solène, Kristina and Aleksa had to decide the identity of the fourth couple invited to participate in the final journey.
We remember that Felix had adopted an extremely strong position by refusing to argue and going so far as to close his eyes and stop listening to Kristina’s arguments. He wasn’t going to change his mind, period. We know the rest: he won his bet and it was Alix and Alex, rather than Anna and Michaël, who obtained their pass for the French Alps.
During the final trip, the eight finalists had to decide together to eliminate one couple so that only three finalist duos remained. One thing is certain: if Michaël and Anna had been there rather than Alix and Alex, the affinities would have meant that Catherine L, Kristina and Anna would have joined forces and the couple of Félix and Solène would have had to pack their bags.
At the time of the deliberation and the legendary scene where Félix closed his eyes and said he no longer wanted to spend calories on a discussion that was going nowhere, he was heavily criticized on social media. But in the end, he won his bet hands down. Had he folded, he would have been eliminated on the final trip.
Today, he is the big winner of Occupation Double Mexico and won a chalet and prizes totaling a value of more than $600,000.
Play the game definitely paid off!
