Sonic 3, the movie enters the home stretch before its theatrical release. The third part of the adventures of the blue hedgehog will make its debut at the cinema on December 18 next. Who would have thought that this adaptation of the cult franchise would end up going this far? It must be said that when its first trailer was released, the film’s bet Sonic was far from won. The initial live-action interpretation of the SEGA mascot was nightmarish to say the least and foreshadowed real disaster. After a second feature film in 2022 and a Paramount+ series last April, the trio formed by Sonic, Tails and Knuckles returns to the big screen to face an iconic rival. After introducing him in the post-credits scene of Sonic 2, the movieShadow is finally awake and is preparing to sow chaos in his path. Keanu Reeves is responsible for bringing the character to life in the original version, the French version therefore relies on the talents of Jean-Pierre Michaël, the actor’s regular dubbing actor. We will regret the absence of the cult voice of Shadow in the games, performed by Benoît Du Pac, but the result turns out to be rather convincing. The new trailer will speak to fans of the games. This begins with a reference to the famous Chao Garden of Sonic Adventure 2which here takes the form of a children’s restaurant full of mascots. After a little tackle on Tails who a young girl confuses with Detective Pikachu (one wonders how Paramount and SEGA obtained the rights to make this joke), the trailer gets to the heart of the matter. Now that Eggman is teaming up with his grandfather, Doctor Gerald Robotnik, the wacky duo plans to use Shadow’s powers to spread terror.
The extracts from the trailer reveal pieces of the hedgehog’s traumatic past. Die-hard fans of the franchise will not have failed to notice young Maria, who will play a key role in Shadow’s motivations. Once again, this film seems to provide a spectacle that is both ideal for the general public and early gamers. Verdict on December 18 when Sonic 3 will enter French cinemas.
