“I’m ten years old”, the short story of the first song by Alain Souchon and Laurent Voulzy

After the success of his song released in 1973, “L’amour 1830”, Alain Souchon has the opportunity to make a first album. To give more modernity to his songs, his producer at RCA, Bob Socquet, introduces him to a talented young musician, Laurent Voulzy. Listening to the first version of “J’ai dix ans”, the musician is not very enthusiastic and he suggests to Alain Souchon to slow down the tempo to save the song. Laurent Voulzy, inspired by the title “Bip Bop” by Paul McCartney and his group Wings, suggests to the singer a new musical arrangement.

“It’s a song that changed our lives. It was the first time we worked together, that he put music to my words or I put words to his music.” Alain Souchon

When it was released in 1974, this title was a success. It marked the beginning of an unwavering friendship and 50 years of diligent collaboration on their respective projects.

“It was the first time we had success like that, so it dazzled us. We said to ourselves: “When we are both together, it creates sparks.” So after that, we continued to work together.” Alain Souchon
