Since then, many fans have been going to the neighborhood to take selfies.

The title rose to number one worldwide on X, formerly Twitter.

Posted on YouTube on Friday, June 28 at 7 a.m. (Thailand time), the clip has been viewed 45.85 million times at the time of publishing this article.

It features several elements of Thai culture, including wai.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said:

“I would like to thank Lisa for choosing Yaowarat as the location for the video, which made the place popular around the world.”

Government spokesman Chai Wacharonke posted on his X page on Saturday that Lisa’s popularity will help further promote tourism in the country.

“She is the pride of all Thais,” he added.

Many businesses in Chinatown are hoping the increase in tourists will give the area a boost, said a vendor at Thai Long Jie shop.

Other small vendors share this optimism, hoping that the viral trend created by Lisa’s clip will attract more tourists to Yaowarat.

This is not the first time that Lisa has had this effect, the artist has already caused an influx of visitors to Ayutthaya, after her visit to the historic site and has boosted sales of products or food after highlighting them, sometimes without meaning to.

Faced with this influx of tourists, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports are strengthening security measures in Yaowarat.

Bangkok’s governor visited Yaowarat on Saturday evening to check that the area was ready to welcome more visitors.

He said BMA authorities regularly visit Chinatown, especially in recent times when the number of visitors has increased.

Mr Chadchart said traffic barriers placed along Yaowarat Street to separate pedestrians from traffic are working effectively.

He added that the line of barriers will be extended to anticipate the arrival of more people.

He also highlighted the importance of waste management in Yaowarat.

He said the BMA regularly deploys its garbage collectors to keep the area clean and the Samphanthawong district office has been ordered to increase the number of garbage bins in the area.

He also asked traffic police to crack down on tuk tuk drivers who park their vehicles in the area to wait for passengers, causing traffic jams.

Taxi drivers who charge excessively high prices are also targeted.

Mr. Chadchart also unveiled several BMA projects for Yaowarat, including:

  • Closing roads to create a pedestrian street;
  • The installation of more pedestrian crossings;
  • Cooperation with local businesses and entrepreneurs to provide public toilets for visitors.

Meanwhile, Tourism and Sports Minister Sermsak Pongpanich and other senior ministry officials recently inspected businesses, restaurants, check-in points and hotels in the Yaowarat district.

The minister stressed the need for cooperation between the private and public sectors to install more CCTV cameras, toilets and signage.

He also called for the city’s trails to be improved to make them more accessible to all.
