The Fez International Festival of Arabic Calligraphy Art Opens Its Doors

The Fez International Festival of Arabic Calligraphy Art opened its doors on Friday, June 28 at the Mohamed Kacemi Gallery. Under the theme “Safir” (ambassador), this 9e edition aims to bring the public and amateur artists of Arabic calligraphy closer to its techniques used in the beautiful paintings relating to decoration and Arabic calligraphy. It is part of the celebration of the Night of Museums and Cultural Spaces at the national level.

The opening ceremony of the festival was marked by the presentation of Arabic calligraphy and decoration, in addition to the highlighting of the award-winning works at the “Al Badr” Prize – Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, the festival’s guest of honor.

On the same occasion, tribute was paid to Moroccan calligrapher Nouria Riyadi and researcher Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi from the United Arab Emirates in recognition of their contributions in the field of developing Arabic calligraphy on a large scale.

This cultural event also included an exhibition, organized by the association “Caméléon des arts plastiques” and offering to see a series of works related to the tools used in the field of Arabic calligraphy. It was supported by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication in cooperation with the Cultural Center “Les Étoiles de la Ville – Fondation Ali Zaoua”.

Calligraphers from several countries were invited: United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Turkey, Tunisia and not forgetting Morocco.
