“My Lady Jane”, an alternative version of the history of the Tudor dynasty

There is not only The Bridgerton Chronicles in life. For a series set in old England, rock and girl power style, you can also dive into this new period series, My Lady Janewhich revisits in a fantastical way the life of Queen Jane, who entered British history for remaining only 9 days on the throne before being beheaded.

In this new version, his destiny is completely different. Edward, the King of England, is dying. During the Tudor era of the 16th century, Lady Jane Grey, her cousin, is forced into a reluctant marriage to an arrogant man she did not choose, Guildford. A future husband who is a horse, half the time. Because he is part of a population, the Edians, capable of transforming into animals. Trapped in a plot that is beyond their control, the new couple will have to team up to save England – and their heads.

As in Bridgerton, a sarcastic narrator adds his corrosive grain of salt, at times regretting that psychotherapy had not yet been invented, it could have healed the trauma of one of the characters. The sensual scenes which focus on bits of bare skin are legion, the costumes are flamboyant, and the heroine is a powerful woman, an intellectual rebel, a researcher in medicinal plants, who is not shy, and asks divorce from the first day of marriage. All on feminine covers of rock hits.

Around them, there is an areopagus of vicious characters, who swarm, starting with Mary Tudor who in the real British history will replace Jane on the throne, and will have her guillotined. As in any good royal series, we have our dose of plots, battles and threats of execution. The battle will ultimately be less between the Catholics and the Protestants, as in the real history of England, than between humans and these overexploited sub-humans of the working class, who have the gift of transforming themselves into bears or vultures.

A punk series finally My Lady Jane, with a fantastic sauce, inspired by a recent bestseller. 8 episodes available on the Prime Video platform.
