Specializing in contemporary design and collectible design – custom-made or micro-series pieces – Stool presents a cutting-edge selection of objects, furniture and decorative and tableware items curated by Isis-Colombe Combréas, editor of MiK Decoration, assisted by Polina Torbina. Tabouret promises a unique shopping experience with a selection of products renewed every ten days, presented in the store on the ground floor, but also by appointment, in the duplex apartment located just above, or all will be for sale. The rehabilitation of the building was entrusted to the young French interior designer Léa Javal, associated with the Menorcan architect Bià Garriga Sánchez.

Each new selection will be an opportunity to welcome a designer in residence, who will explain his work during specially organised festive events. Tabouret was also born from the desire to go against the traditional image of art in the Balearic Islands, where one usually finds rather simple craft pieces such as palm leaf baskets or seagrass rugs. The place draws on the artistic metamorphosis initiated by the island of Menorca since the installation of the Swiss contemporary art gallery-centre Hauser & Wirth in the outbuildings of a former naval hospital, on an island off the coast of Mahón.

The curation focuses on modern works, made from noble materials such as brushed aluminum, and signed by artists from all over the world, like those presented in the major European fairs. Tabouret also exhibits a selection of art prints from the digital gallery. Craft Galleryfashion pieces from Après Ski and KASSL Editions, beauty brands such as Rowse, as well as an exclusive collection of decorative items by LRNCE, which Belgian designer Laurence Leenaert will present herself during the summer.

Tabouret’s first exhibition is dedicated to… stools, with, in particular, a piece imagined by designer Guillaume Delvigne who also signed the exhibition poster. A nod to this multifunctional piece of furniture, which is often the first piece of design that we can afford, due to its usefulness and affordable price.

Tabouret aims to boost its neighborhood, the art & design district of Mahón, by organizing events in association with neighboring businesses, such as the Pipet Cafè restaurant or the Pigalle bakery. Tabouret will be open for one summer, from June 27 to September 15, 2024, but will then continue to offer its selection online – on the web and on Instagram. The visual communication is by Karel Balas, who notably designed the logo, and Cecilia Renard, a young photographer from the island.
