After a break of more than 10 years, this iconic Hollywood actress will make her return to Netflix in a feature film entitled Back in Action. The release is scheduled for January 17 and the trailer has only just been released.
She had retired to take care of her family. The iconic actress, Cameron Diaz, is finally back on our screens. The Hollywood star stars alongside Jamie Foxx in Netflix’s new action comedy, Back in Action. The trailer was published on November 14 by the SVOD giant, Netflix. The release date of the feature film is set for January 17, 2025, so we will still have to wait before seeing it again in the foreground.

A well-executed action comedy
The feature film traces the action of a couple of former CIA spies, Emily played by Cameron Diaz and her husband Matt, played by Jamie Foxx. While they have started a family with two children, their life balance is threatened when their coverage is compromised. The two lovebirds will have to bring out their old techniques to be able to save themselves and protect their children. And even if the mission seems rather difficult, we realize throughout the trailer that the couple seems to rather enjoy their second youth in the profession. The action comedy was directed by Seth Gordon, director of Baywatch: Baywatch and co-written by Brendan O’Brien, screenwriter of Our Worst Neighbors and Ninja Turtles: Teenage Years. Also in the cast are Andrew Scott, Glenn Close, Kyle Chandler and Mckenna Roberts.
Two returns in one
Cameron Diaz announced his retirement 11 years ago to focus on his family and his business projects, including his famous Avaline wine. Now the mother of two children with her husband Benji Madden, she spoke about this choice during Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit last October. “For me, it was just something I had to do. I felt like it was something I needed to do to reclaim my own life. And nothing else could interest me. No one could have changed my mind about my decision to take care of myself and build a life I really wanted”, she says. After Back in Actionit should continue with the fifth opus of the Shrek saga planned for 2026 where she will play Princess Fiona.
But the new Netflix film also marks the return of Jamie Foxx. The 56-year-old actor was urgently hospitalized in April 2023 while he was on set in Atlanta. Without giving further details about the health problems, Foxx returned to the stage during his moving one-man show One More Chance : An Evening with Jamie Foxx at the beginning of October.
