Fashion victim, Move away, Caroline, New western… MC Solaar, five Victoires de la musique on the clock (among others), has deeply marked the history of French rap. And even just music. A few days ago he released a new song Candyman, taken from his latest album, Triptych: Cosmic Shards.
A song which was accompanied by an (unofficial) clip that we owe to a young 26-year-old Albigensian, Léo Bivas. This specialist in stop motion worked for a month and a half on this project, shot and edited in the Tarn. Here is the result…
Gifted
“I was lucky enough to be approached by Mc Solaar’s production company: BRC Production, which asked me to direct and animate an off-screen clip,” explains the videographer, who created his independent audiovisual production company.
“Video, animation and sculpture are three passions that I have cherished since childhood and adolescence,” insists the one who had won, while he was still a teenager, in 2015, the second prize of the Golden Morphan animation competition launched by Peter Lord (director of Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run et Shaun the Sheep) and Merlin Crossingham (director of the last Wallace & Gromit).
Subsequently, Léo Bivas notably worked with Martin Meuniersculptor and 3D modeler, winner of a technical Oscar for his work on the film Coraline by Henry Sellick, in the independent studio Laïka.
In modeling clay
The Tarnais also published a video in which he tells the behind-the-scenes story of his creation using modeling clay.
Léo Bivas presents his work on MC Solaar’s song as a “decisive project in my career which ensures me exceed all possible limits when we are faced with certain projects that may seem dizzying at first.” The future will tell how right he is or not.
