La Perle bleue comes back to life this weekend! The 13e edition of the Chefchaouen International Environmental Film Festival will be held from June 26 to 29, 2024. This year’s theme is “Green Cinema for a Healthy and Sustainable Climate,” with 26 participants from a variety of countries, according to the Talassemtane Association for Environment and Development, organizer of the event.

The primary purpose of this festival remains raising public awareness of global environmental challenges. Also, it is a question of promoting sustainable solutions to protect the planet through cinema. Film screenings, conferences, masterclasses and meetings with experts in cinema and the environment are also on the program.

The latter also provides for the broadcast of 4 professional feature films, 8 professional short films, 8 amateur short films and 6 films for the competition of educational establishments from different countries: Morocco, France, Germany, Mexico, United States, China, Korea, Singapore, Italy, Pakistan, India, Ireland, Canada, South Africa, Sultanate of Oman, Spain, United Kingdom and Australia.

Several prizes will be awarded, such as the Grand Prix for best documentary, the prize for best short film on the environment or even the prize for best animated film. A special WWF Morocco prize is also planned, while another will be awarded to the best feature film dealing with the theme of plastic.

In the festival there will be two juries. On the one hand, the first is that of the international competition for professional feature and short films, chaired by Merieme Addou, Moroccan producer and director. On the other hand, the second jury is that of the international competition of amateur films and films from educational establishments. It is chaired by Wijdan Al-Oqab, president of the general secretariat of environment and sustainable development at the general union of Arab producers in Kuwait.
