Saturday June 22, late afternoon in Malagar, family estate where the writer François Mauriac (1885-1970) regularly stayed, located on the heights of the hillsides of the commune of Saint-Maixant (Gironde), fifty kilometers from Bordeaux. Leaden sky, persistent drizzle since the morning. The panorama over the Garonne valley, the vineyards and the Landes forest remains no less grandiose. A beautiful heritage site in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, classified as a “historical monument”, donated by the writer’s four children to the regional council in 1986, Malagar hosts the sixth stage of the 33e edition of Atypical Nights. A traveling festival between several municipalities in the south of Gironde, divided into concerts, shows, folk balls, DJ sets, screenings, debates, meetings and workshops, which is held until July 21.

Shortly after 9 p.m., a sun burst onto the stage, Renata Rosa. Brazilian singer and musician with a radiant smile, she immediately dissolves gloomy moods, readjusts minds to the idea of ​​celebration. Two hours earlier, during a public meeting, she insisted on the importance of dancing. Many of the chairs brought and installed on the dirt floor by part of the public will quickly fold. “Festive and joyful catharsis”

There she notably encountered the polyphonies of the Kariri-Xoco and settled there (first in Olinda, then Recife).
