José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, former president of the Spanish government, will take part in the Human Rights Forum of the Gnaoua and world music festival, we learn from a press release. The forum which will be held on the occasion of the 11th edition of the festival will focus on the theme “Morocco, Spain, Portugal: a history with a future”. Zapatero will be present, as a keynote speaker, alongside a range of political actors, researchers, academics, activists and journalists from Morocco and its Iberian neighbors.

The Forum which will be held on June 28 and 29 will thus be opened with the intervention of Zapatero who will address the question “The Mediterranean… border or junction between Africa and Europe? “. The reflection will be developed in light of the organization, in less than six years, of the 2030 World Cup by Morocco, Spain and Portugal. This joint application “ unpublished » is analyzed as proof “ exceptional relations that have linked the three countries for more than a thousand years, with variable but practically uninterrupted human, economic and cultural flows “, despite the friction that there was at times, supports the press release.

This rapprochement between the kingdom and Spain and Portugal, it is added, thus opens the way for numerous “ opportunities for dialogue and cooperation “. The challenges facing the three countries have also changed in nature, this dialogue requires greater creativity, understanding and mutual respect. It is from this perspective that the experts, researchers, political actors and activists who will meet in conclave during this forum will attempt to answer numerous questions.

« What effects could the joint organization of the World Cup have on the future of relations between the three countries? What role for civil society, for intellectuals, artists, athletes? How is mobility evolving between the three countries? How, in each diaspora, do we evoke exile, the community, the country? So many questions which will be proposed for debate during three thematic panels bringing together intellectuals, political, economic or associative actors from the three countries. », Explain the organizers.
