The first half of this year has passed with an entire smartphone market that has already seen its first highlight. The Frandroid editorial team tirelessly tests most of the models released and that deserve your attention. Here is our top 3 tested smartphones that we recommend to you in this month of July 2024.

Realme’s Return

Samsung’s rival

8 /10

Halfway through 2024, the smartphone market is already well active with almost all the major players having released at least one phone. The cherry on the cake is that the French market is seeing the return of Oppo with the Reno 12 Pro that we were able to get our hands on. The fact remains that the best smartphones of the year have mostly all been released, with the exception of Apple, which is waiting until September for its traditional conference. Among all the devices we tested last month, here are the three that caught our attention: a Realme, a Motorola, and an Honor.

Motorola is one of the few manufacturers to try their hand at foldable smartphones against Samsung. To do this, it is the Razr range that is responsible for offering innovative clamshell devices. The new Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is presented as a competitor to the upcoming Z Flip 6 to be presented by Samsung during the summer. With a sophisticated design and above all a waterproof certification, the phone already has serious assets to please. The 6.9-inch internal screen offers good brightness, even if the colorimetry is a little more disappointing. The 4-inch external interface is used for applications developed for this purpose. In this sense, Motorola has made real efforts to offer a great user experience despite three years of major updates. The power developed is articulated around a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Overall usage is good, even if gaming performance remains average. For its part, the photo is provided by two juxtaposed lenses which highlight pretty shots with good details, even if the whole remains disappointing for a price of 1200 euros.

For its part, Honor continues its work around its catalog with the 200 range. During our test of the Honor 200 Pro, the manufacturer wants to put photography in the spotlight. Indeed, the Portrait mode is developed in partnership with Harcourt with the studio’s signature on black and white renderings. On the rest of the shots delivered, the rendering is good without being totally revolutionary. As for the rest of the technical sheet, the 6.78-inch screen has a 120 Hz refresh rate with decent brightness, but disappointing colorimetry. In terms of deployed performance, it is the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 which is installed with 12 GB of RAM. The contribution of MagicOS is good for daily use, even if here again, you are only entitled to three major Android updates. In terms of autonomy, the phone is able to withstand a day and a half without flinching. Above all, you benefit from a fairly fast recharge with 100% energy reached after 50 minutes. For 800 euros, the smartphone is recommendable, but be aware that there are better models.

Among the returnees on the French market, Realme has made its return on tiptoe. To do this, the Realme 12 Pro Plus remains on the fundamentals of the manufacturer with an eye-catching design mimicking the luxurious appearance of a clock. The construction allows the 6.7-inch AMOLED screen to be highlighted. The measured colorimetry is a little more fragile. The phone has a great strength: namely, it is capable of lasting two full days with great endurance. It is compatible with the 33W fast charge delivered in the box. To go to 100%, count on one hour of recharging. In terms of internal power, the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chip is associated with at least 8 GB of RAM. Use is facilitated for everyday software. In mobile gaming, performance is much more fragile with variations in stability. For 349 euros, the Realme 12 Pro Plus is a good proposition without being our number one recommendation.
