A teacher from Libourne receives a third letter of death threats, an investigation underway

A teacher threatened again. A death threat letter was discovered on Tuesday, November 12 in a classroom at the Jean-Monnet high school in (), the city’s prosecutor’s office told Le Parisien this Thursday, confirming information from Sud-Ouest. This missive – of a “racist nature” according to the city’s mayor Philippe Buisson cited by Bleu Gironde – targeted a teacher already threatened in December 2023 and then a week after the start of the 2024 school year. An investigation is underway and has been entrusted to the Libourne research brigade, according to the prosecution.

According to Sud-Ouest, the targeted teacher is in a state of shock. The first letter targeting her stated: “We must kill the Arabs at the high school. I’m going to bleed them like my grandfather’s pigs…”, according to the local newspaper. A colleague of the professor interviewed by Sud-Ouest indicates that the missive received this Tuesday is “more laconic”, but targets her directly. “We are all very worried. No one has been implicated for the previous letter. There is real tension within the school…”, the establishment told the local newspaper.

“It’s disgusting”

Colleagues of the professor say they are “in shock” to France Bleu Gironde. “Can you imagine what state she might be in? It was in his classroom that the letter was found. Whoever put it there knew very well who it was addressed to. This has to stop. We are angry. It’s disgusting,” adds a representative of the high school’s CGT on local radio. The Libourne public prosecutor’s office confirms that this letter “was slipped under the classroom door”.

In December 2023, half of the establishment’s teachers had exercised their right of withdrawal. “The teachers, very shocked, are asking for the administrative closure of the establishment because they consider that the security conditions are not met,” said Charlotte Laizet, departmental co-secretary of Snus-FSU Gironde. The school administration filed a complaint.
