Taking an AIDS screening test in a pharmacy is now possible in the Alpes-Maritimes. The department was selected to test the experimentation of “rapid HIV diagnostic guidance tests” carried out by community pharmacists.
These rapid HIV screening tests have been in effect since October. They are done without a prescription, without upfront costs, with immediate results. Anonymity and confidentiality are guaranteed.
Six pharmacies in the Meton area
For now, only six pharmacies were selected for the experiment. They are all located in the Menton basin in Menton, Cap d’Ail and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.
“The project will initially be deployed on an experimental basis in certain areas of the Alpes-Maritimes, before a potential extension to other territories, less endowed with medical resources, depending on the results. This new lever of action will make it possible to bring the region’s ambitious goal of ending HIV transmission”, explains a press release from the association “Objectif AIDS Zéro, Nice and the Alpes-Maritimes are committed!”, the CPTS of the French Riviera and the Regional Coordination Committee for the fight against HIV and STIs (COREVIH Paca-Est).
