With the release on November 9 of the first episodes of the second (and final) season of Arcane, Riot reminds the public of its ambitious plans to develop its billion-dollar license beyond the MOBA that made it successful.

For a more accessible fight

In 2016, Riot Games bought the studio Radiant Entertainment, which had barely come out of an open alpha of its Rising Thundera since-canceled fighting game. Led by the Cannon brothers, fighting game veterans best known for developing GGPO and creating EVOthe world’s largest fighting game tournament, the studio quickly found itself integrated into Riot and set to work on what was initially named Project L. It is only 5 years after its initial announcement (i.e. in 2024) that the developers announce the final title of the project, which has become 2XKO. If it was able to appear in several competitions across the Atlantic, the developers wishing to both present their production to the public and collect first impressions from fighting game fans, this was able to have a first closed alpha in August 2024.

This alpha was the opportunity to try for the first time a fairly rich game, whose not very advanced development revealed a myriad of problems, but which was already very rich and offered players many options once the controller was in hand. It must be said that 2XKO made the surprising choice of 2v2, a type of fighting game in which each player controls two characters, giving players the possibility of changing characters on the fly or calling the character to assist to possibly extend a combo. If 2v2 often provides a particularly interesting gameplay base to play and watch, it’s a type of game that remains quite difficult to tackle for novices.

League of Legends au pays du versus fighting

If we wait to see how Riot will succeed in lowering the entry level without creating a less deep gamethe studio intends to rely on its strengths to attract the general public to its next production. And with the current broadcast of the second season ofArcane, 2XKO took the opportunity to reveal the first gameplay images of Jinx, one of the main characters in the animated series broadcast by Netflix. Taking advantage of the recent broadcast of the first act of season 2 of its animated series, the American developer recently revealed a very short sneak peek highlighting the gameplay of its zoner and teasing the addition of new gameplay mechanics.

In addition to this, Riot took advantage of a blog post to announce the holding of a future playtest planned for spring 2025. This second playtest should logically be carried out on a much more advanced version of the game, the developers explaining that they were able to review the players’ comments after the first. alpha test. In addition, they decided to add Jinx to the list of playable characters, joining Ekko, Ahri, Darius, Braum, Illaoi and Yasuo in the game’s roster. Still planned for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series, 2XKO should arrive in its final version sometime in 2025.
