American pop superstar Justin Timberlake spent the night in police custody and appeared for drunken driving in an ultra-upscale region east of New York, local justice and police announced Tuesday.
During the night from Monday to Tuesday, “Justin Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor for drunk driving” and, in accordance with American criminal procedure, “was indicted in the Sag Harbor Village Court, then released after admitting the facts”the Suffolk County prosecutor’s office on Long Island confirmed in an email to AFP.
The 43-year-old star will have to appear again before the local courts, by videoconference, on July 26.
Justin Timberlake was arrested driving a BMW around 12:30 a.m. (04:30 GMT) some 150 km east of New York, in the Hamptons area, known for housing sumptuous residences of wealthy people, according to Sag police. The singer, producer and actor was driving “intoxicated” after not stopping at an intersection and not being able to “keep” his vehicle on the “correct” trajectory, the police detailed in a press release.
Justin Timberlake had the “bloodshot eyes, while his breath smelled of alcohol”, CBS reported, saying that he even told the police officer that he had “drank a Martini and followed (his) friends home.”
