“A Quiet Place: Day One”, the prequel to the saga launched in 2018 by John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, was released at the cinema this Wednesday, June 26. What do the first viewers think of the film with Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quin?

Six years after A Quiet Place and three years after its direct sequel by John Krasinski, the prequel subtitled Day 1 has just been released in our cinemas. This feature film starring Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou takes place in New York on the first day of the alien invasion.

This new film in the science fiction saga rated 3.7 by AlloCiné spectators extends the universe and allows us to discover other characters and how creatures sensitive to noise arrived on Earth. Directed by Michael Sarnoski, already at work on Pig, with Nicolas Cage. Quietly: Day 1 brings a new vision to the franchise.

Unlike previous installments, in which the family already knows the rules to follow, the heroes of this film are instantly plunged into terror and must understand how the creatures work and adapt.

What do early viewers think of this prequel? With 121 ratings and 29 reviews at the time of writing, A Quiet Place: Day One has an average rating of 2.9 stars out of 5.

They liked

Vom hause kristo gives the film 5 stars and writes: “Another vision of the alien apocalypse. The New York setting is extraordinary, the action scenes are breathtaking and the actors are very accurate. I recommend, especially to understand a little more.”

For Anthony Olmeta A Quiet Place: Day 1 is a “Great film which plays well on suspense and on the construction of characters with real reflection.”

Flower0478 gives it a 4 star rating: “I really liked the story. Honestly I wasn’t bored at all, there was action. And I didn’t expect it but there was a lot of emotion. I really like Lupita Nyong’o as an actress. The acting duo works very well and at the end we are moved I recommend this film.”

For djami M. it is: “Really a good film that you shouldn’t compare to the other 2 to appreciate it, since the subject is not the same. Showing us what happened on day 1 is a very good idea, plus Djimon Hounsou’s character makes the connection with A Quiet Place 2. The film also emphasizes the relationship between the 2 protagonists (loneliness, empathy) like the previous films emphasized the family.”

Cécile “Louve_Sanguine” notes: “Was I the only one crying at the end of the film? In any case I loved it, contrary to the comments I have read, I find that it explains the arrival of the creatures well. We become attached to the moment, to the instant T. We are the characters and we live the story as if it were our own.”

For Ghighi19, “It is probably a great first to dare to put emotion in a film of this kind. A big bravo therefore for having made this choice. The result is very touching because the two actors are simply amazing. It is strange to write this, but it is tender and beautiful for a film supposed to be scary. It is really good.”

They liked it less

Cinévore 24 gives it a rating of 3/5 and writes: “An origin story that works better in its intimate aspect (especially thanks to its main duo, Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn, despite somewhat easy motivations) than for its horrific side, quite conventional and predictable as a whole, and ultimately secondary in the plot. An “auteur blockbuster” that can be watched without much surprise, but with a little emotion.”

For Pierre Nicolas, “The movie is not bad, but it is true that the trailer is a bit misleading in the sense that we expect a lot of action and in the end the events happen very quickly and without much explanation. The few action scenes are almost all in the trailer. We have the impression that a lot of things have been shortened, barely arrived that everyone is already aware of the invaders’ weak points… (…) It remains a good movie that makes you jump more than scare you but there was enormous potential with this alien invasion and these mechanics, unfortunately it was not fully exploited.”

Imc-3 gives the film a score of 1/5. He explains: “The universe is the right one, our dear monsters of the franchise are there, New York in ruins is very well done, but we have lost the charismatic characters, the stakes, the tension, the pleasure. (…) Is- this a horror film? A psychological thriller intended to be philosophical? Very poorly paced, comical in spite of itself, almost zero tension, one-sided, no answer given regarding the universe, it’s flat, uninteresting, pathetic, soporific: empty. waste of time and energy”

For AD the film does not live up to the previous ones: “What a shock after the first 2 successful films… The rhythm is bad, the actors have no charisma, the inconsistencies with the universe are blatant (it whispers, walks noisily etc…)… and I’m not even talking about the cat under lexomil. The last third is an ordeal and we only expect one thing: the monsters to be a little more effective…. and the special effects are not bad and the first part of the film is correct.”

But the best thing is to form your own opinion and come and rate the film on AlloCiné ! Without a sound: Day 1 is currently in cinemas.
