The 85-year-old British actor, who plays Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, suffered a violent fall this Monday, June 17, 2024 in London.

Ian McKellen, 85, was performing this Monday, June 17 in London with the theater troupe of the play “Player Kings” when he violently fell from the stage, reports the Guardian.

“Help me, my arms!”

The evening quickly turned dark for the British actor who tripped on elements of the set and fell from the stage, directly onto his stomach. According to a witness present in the room at the time of the incident, Ian McKellen started shouting: “Help me! Help me! My arms! Help me.”

“It was terrible to see, everyone was very worried. Some fans were in tears”indicated the same source.

The actor was taken by ambulance from the Noël Coward Theater where he was performing, to hospital.

More fear than harm

Spectators were informed of the definitive cancellation of the show at around 8 p.m. and were asked to leave the room. As a precaution, the performances scheduled for Tuesday June 18 have also been canceled.

According to information from the BBCthe actor who plays Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, is doing well: “He is in a very good mood and optimistic“, according to a source to our British colleagues who adds: “He will be back on his feet soon, doctors expect him to make a full recovery.”
