It was in front of around sixty people that Manuel Del Ghingaro and his orchestra from the conservatory of Lucca, Italy, presented themselves. The kind of intimate concert he likes.

“It is the first time I play in Corsica, he declares. It is a pleasure to discover the island through this festival. We also have the honor of playing the scores of composers from Lucca, so it’s a part of us that we bring. It’s also very interesting to go to these rural villages, to meet another audience. We were in yesterday, where the programs are coming one after the other. Here, it’s a journey as much for them as for us. The relationship is more friendly.”

The public, won over by this concert, is also happy to see such talented artists performing in their village.

“I try to come every time there is an event in the village, this one was very good. The orchestra played magnificently, says a resident. There are fewer people than in summer but it’s good that things are being done outside summer period Also.”

For the volunteers of Jeunesses Musicales de Méditerranée, who organize this festival, it is also a pleasure to offer their programming to as many people as possible.

“This is the first time we come to Belgudè, explains Michel Bernard. The fact of relocating the festival, outside Bastia and its surroundings, makes it possible to offer shows to an audience who might not have been able to make the trip, and it also makes it possible to make this festival grow, with new encounters. It is also important to allow this type of show outside of summer periods.”

Bringing cultures together

Since its creation, the Mediterranean Musical Meetings have aimed to bring together the music of the countries surrounding this sea. This year again, seven nationalities were represented. Meetings that allow musicians to grow.

“Exchange is a necessity, adds the conductor. Through music, we discover a story and we enrich ourselves culturally from others. These exchanges also allow us to progress musically.” With this type of event, the Mediterranean Musical Meetings extend their cultural network throughout Corsica.
