The legendary Willie Nelson, 91, releases a new album, it would be his 152nd, or even 175th if we take into account collaborations and concert albums. The sacred monster of country music with his eternal red bandana around his forehead and his unique voice does not seem ready to retire.

Willie Nelson is this voice that is so special, so deep, among all the other stars of “We Are The World” in 1985. Rebel against the ruling class, the established power, on societal subjects like the right to gay marriage, the legalization of cannabis or the fight against racism, he launched into music as a composer, then performed in the 1960s. Producer, singer and even actor, Willie Nelson multiplies the caps and albums.

Today, the legendary country singer is releasing “The Border”, a new album with which he focuses in particular on the border between the United States and Mexico, as well as on the misery of immigration. He sings from the point of view of a border guard who then feels empathy for the people he takes into custody.

Mexico, humor, love and uncertainty

The influences of Mexican music run through almost all of Willie Nelson’s work. In this new recording, it’s even more than that since the artist pays a true homage to his native Texas and its border with Mexico.

“The Border” is also a record full of self-deprecation. As evidenced by the title “What If”, a bouncy jazzy song about a new love which, at his age, could well be a simple figment of his imagination. Humor and love are also mixed with the theme of mourning, as it is true that at 91 years old, Willie Nelson becomes one of the rare survivors among his deceased loved ones.

With his voice and his guitar as lively as ever, the rebel Willie Nelson in any case signs with “The Border” an album full of spirit and accuracy.
