The influences of Mexican music run through almost all of Willie Nelson’s work. In this new recording, it’s even more than that since the artist pays a true homage to his native Texas and its border with Mexico.
“The Border” is also a record full of self-deprecation. As evidenced by the title “What If”, a bouncy jazzy song about a new love which, at his age, could well be a simple figment of his imagination. Humor and love are also mixed with the theme of mourning, as it is true that at 91 years old, Willie Nelson becomes one of the rare survivors among his deceased loved ones.
